Understanding back pain
Back pain is a symptom with several possible causes, including muscle strain. Many episodes improve, but persistent or recurring pain may need assessment.
When to seek an assessment
Seek emergency care for back pain with new bladder or bowel changes, numbness around the genitals, weakness in both legs, or after a serious accident. Severe sudden pain or pain with fever needs urgent assessment.
